I have been unsuccessful in sending an e-mail text from my computer to my Moto X. I have followed the advice in several threads on this site without success.
Is there any way this can be accomplished?
Republic does not have an SMS gateway. What you were reading was how to get around not being able to get short codes directly.
There are lots of ways to send texts from your computer, though. You can do it if you are using a Google Voice account, or with an app like Mighty Text (MightyText - PC ↔SMS Messaging - Android Apps on Google Play), or by installing Motorola Connect with Chrome on your computer (Motorola Connect - Android Apps on Google Play).
What have you tried so far?
I have tried both my Republic and secret Sprint numbers with "@messaging.sprintpcss.com". It takes about a day to get an e-mail error message back to my computer. No messages arrive on my phone.
I spent hours trying your suggestions. I was finally able to get text sent from G-mail using the secret Sprint number, but I could not respond from the phone. It is a very convoluted process, and I don't recommend it.
I was successful in getting Motorola Connect to work. After you install the extension to Chrome, click on the Motorola icon in the upper right corner of Chrome. None of this was easy. I have been using and building computer for over 30 years, so am not a neophyte.
It is impossible to respond to a text sent to the underlying Sprint number. Using that number to receive texts is a one-way pathway. The only kind of text messaging it should be used for (and even then it is with caution) is if you need to receive a short-code text (e.g., from your bank) or text to an SMS gateway (e.g., school alerts). It should not be used if the text requires any kind of response, and should never be used in situations where regular SMS/MMS messaging will work.
Glad you got Motorola Connect to work for you!
(Mighty Text is also easy to use.)
The last few days I've discovered that Motorola Connect only seems to work when my phone is connected with Wifi. Does anyone else have any input on this issue?
using Google Voice, I can send texts from laptop & PC and also using Chrome browser on PC, I can even make and receive calls using GV / Google talk chrome extensions. GV might be an option for you too.
I have tried Google Voice and Hangouts without success.
Do you have a full number with Google Voice or just Google Voice lite? https://support.google.com/voice/answer/115073?hl=en
You may be able to leverage http://ifttt.com/ as I suggested previously here and madison suggested here.
I finally got it to work. I had Google Voice Lite.
YAY! Glad I could help.
Remember you have a smartphone, many rw members simply send an email, instead of attempting to text to email.
But if want to send text from pc, Andreas suggested thar you can send and receive texts on your PC with moto connect app, and using the chrome browser.
